Maltas Club Namibia (MALTAS) celebrated its 10th anniversary on 11 March this year and is a registered NGO with the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade, and SME development in the Republic of Namibia. The core mandate of Maltas Club Namibia is a premier student club that empowers young Namibian students at institutions of higher learning in entrepreneurship, innovation, and leadership skills. Thus far over 120 young people benefited from this initiative and are making their mark in the national and international space across the globe.
The Club is open to all young Namibian students at institutions of higher learning in Namibia, who would like to advance their personal and professional skills. The purpose of specifically looking at only institutions of higher learning is because we feel there is a huge gap between theory and practice when we look at tertiary education.
Maltas Club Namibia as an NGO applied for funding to the German Embassy in Namibia, and after a rigorous application process, the club managed to secure funding to the value of N$164.804 (for the purchase of computer equipment) for conducting ICT Training Workshops across Namibia.
This specific project is done in collaboration with the German Embassy Windhoek: Namibia. It kicked off with a launch ceremony on 8 November 2021 at the Tusmkwe Lodge and was attended by various community members (which included school board members) and youth.
The course consists of Two Modules: Basic ICT Skills and professional development skills. In terms of ICT, the trainees learned basic computer skills (for instance switching a computer on or off), Microsoft Office and PowerPoint, Excel, and the use of social media in the most responsible manner. After the intensive course learners were accessed on writing their own Curriculum Vitae (CV) and a Test to see whether learning has actually taken place.
In terms of professional development, the trainees learned basic health and hygiene, how to stay motivated, and study skills. Projects of this nature can help those young people who dropped out of school and engaged theme in alcohol and substance abuse. It will also keep the youth off the street. Computer Literacy and ICT facilities are not readily available to rural communities in this area. Maltas Club Namibia believes that ICT knowledge is critical for young people to access future employment opportunities in this competitive global world.
We have a three-year plan laid out for empowering rural young people with ICT skills in all regions across Namibia. We intend to revisit Tsumkwe in march 2022 to see whether the youth has indeed made progress or not. There are two classrooms of TUCSIN available for training in Tsumkwe. The equipment remains the property of Maltas Club Namibia as stipulated in the contractual agreement with the German Embassy Namibia and will be used only for training young people across Namibia for ICT training. The Club will ensure that the equipment is stored safely and that training is conducted in rural communities across Namibia.
So far the club will visit the rural communities of the Okavango region in June 2022, while a visit is planned for the Oshana region in April 2022. The exact dates are still to be confirmed. The visits to the other remaining regions will only take place from 2023.
Maltas Club Namibia in collaboration with the German Embassy in Windhoek, launched an ICT Training Programme which will be conducted across all 14 Regions in Namibia.
The German Embassy funded this project with N$164, 804 for the purchase of laptop computers and training equipment. The aim of this program is to give basic ICT skills to in and out of school youth in Namibia.
Maltas Club Namibia, Delivery Room, and Dinapama hosted a learner’s engagements workshop at the Ebenhaeser Primary School, Karibib Namibia. A total of 3 officials conducted this workshop. Boys were educated about Gender-based violence, while the trainers engaged the girls on sanitary health. Over 15 000 towels were donated to the girls at the Ebenhaeser School in Karibib in May 2021.
Local Namibian Music artist Mr. Edo Nikodemus Lutete ‘Dice’, MALTAS Club Namibia and Namibian United States Alumni Association (NUSAA) joined hands to fight global extremism. This is an international campaign which includes young people from across 500 institutions around the globe.
Maltas Club Namibia recently rolled out their community engagements to the elderly of the Swakopmund Welwitschia 2 Centre. The two day outreach programme was supported by First National Bank of Namibia
Malta’s Club Namibia 2017 Nominees paid a courtesy visit to Central Hospital Children’s’ Cancer Ward last week. The students treated the little wants with food, drinks and gifts in commemoration with Namibia’s 27th Independence Celebrations.

Maltas Club Namibia embark upon an extraordinary community outreach programme to Olukonda in the Oshikoto Region in the north last week. The purpose of the visit is threefold. To expand the Information Communication Literacy workshops of the club to learners in the Northern region. An initiative that they started with the German Embassy in Namibia last year in the Otjozondjupa Region. Secondly, to teach the learners about basic sanitary and hygiene skills. Finally, to care for the elderly and learn more from their wisdom and personal life stories.

Maltas Club Namibia recently joined forces with Shoprite and Dinapama Manufacturing Supplies to care for the elderly in the Okafitu village in the Okwaadluudhi Kingdom in the Omusati Region. Old age is a very crucial phase in the life of all humans. Having carried out various community projects for the past thirteen years, Maltas Club Namibia believes that elderly people need special care and attention to lead a healthy life free of worries and anxiety. The club also learned firsthand that there is no adequate awareness about some of the key behavioral changes associated with old age leading to abuse by their relatives. READ MORE
Maltas Club Namibia and Sanlam Namibia partnered last weekend and held their 2nd Soup Kitchen at the Aris Grundschule 25 km outside Windhoek. The school was established in 1982 to give access to education to children from the surrounding villages. The school has approximately 189 learners, starting from Grade R to Grade 7, most of whom come from a very humble background from the villages nearby. The school has a staff complement of 8 teachers and 7 hostel caretakers. Thirty percent of the learners at the school are orphans or very vulnerable children. The purpose of the soup kitchen is to fight hunger by ensuring that each of the learners is provided with a nutritious meal. Secondly, the Maltas and Sanlam team also extended the “Keeping Rural Girls” in school initiative to the school. READ MORE

#RAVE (Rise Above Violent Extremism) is a local campaign that challenges hate speech in all forms. Since hate speech can lead to violent extremism, our objective is to educate and empower at-risk youth in Namibia to take a positive and creative stance against hate speech, as well as support local, community initiatives aimed at strengthening and enhancing new measures to combat violent extremism. We transform at-risk youth into campaign ambassadors by exposing them to our campaign and hosting educational workshops in conjunction with local artists. Most recently, RAVE visited Bethold Humumuine Primary School and National Brand Ambassador primary school learners, while local musician Mr. Edo Dice Lutete taught the young students how to create poetry and song to express their positive world views. We achieve our goals by engaging with all stakeholders about violent extremism via social media, open days, printed media, radio, TV and word of mouth communication. RAVE has been making a positive impact through the Maltas Club Namibia (NGO) for over two years and we have many plans for the future.
