Maltas Club Namibia and partners and supports Empowering Education in Namibia

Since its inception in 2011, Maltas Club Namibia (Reg. no:1545/2016 NGO) prides itself to support and empower young Namibians, especially the underprivileged through various educational and community initiatives throughout Namibia. Just before Easter, Empowering Education – Bildung stärken project kicked off in //Kharas and Khomas Regions facilitated by Maltas Club Namibia.

Answering the call to support the Namibian child with stationary and learning material as was published in The Namibian dated (25.01.2022), the club joined forces with its partners in Germany and raised N$22 388.24 to support the Suiderlig Senior Sec School in Keetmanshoop and the Môreseon Special School for the Cognitively Impaired in Khomasdal with stationary and sanitizer products. Each of the seventy (70) learners were provided with a pencil case, with various pens, pencils, eraser and ruler as well as writing pads at the Suiderlig Senior Secondary School. At the handover ceremony in Keetmanshoop the Maltas Club Namibia President for 2022, Ms. Letta Shilongo narrated the story of her own personal struggles as a learner who failed Grade 10 and how she dusted herself off and chased her dreams. She encouraged the learners to always see the positive in any situation, regardless of what they are faced with on a daily basis. It was a day filled with songs and praise, where Ms. Emma Galandt the coordinator of the proceedings for the day, expressed her sincere gratitude to the Maltas Club for supporting the school with various projects since 2013.

At the Môreson Special School, one hundred and sixty-two (162) learners were also provided with a pencil case, writing pad and sanitizer. Prof. Julia Augart from Germany said that she is very proud of what this special school for the cognitively impaired has achieved so far and does not doubt that this help will go a long way. The Principal of the School Ms. Anita Kreft narrated the importance of taking interest in learners with special needs (specifically cognitively challenged learners), and that Namibians must get more involved in Special Needs education, as these learners need us on a daily basis. She furthermore expressed that the social-economic setup does not cater to people with intellectual impairment, and we as a nation are strongly encouraged to look into that. So that they feel equivalent and able to make a positive contribution to the Namibian economy. The project will be rolled out to the Kavango region later in the year and will continue to empower education – Bildung stärken in Namibia.
