Maltas Club Namibia empowers rural communities in Olukonda
Maltas Club Namibia embark upon an extraordinary community outreach programme to Olukonda in the Oshikoto Region in the north last week. The purpose of the visit is threefold. To expand the Information Communication Literacy workshops of the club to learners in the Northern region. An initiative that they started with the German Embassy in Namibia last year in the Otjozondjupa Region. Secondly, to teach the learners about basic sanitary and hygiene skills. Finally, to care for the elderly and learn more from their wisdom and personal life stories.
MALTAS President 2022, Ms. Letta Shilongo delivered the key message on behalf of the Patron of the Club, His Excellency – Vice President of the Republic of Namibia, where she encouraged fifty (50) learners to take the ICT training seriously as we live in a digital age. Forty (40) elderly people were given 91 T-Shirts which were sponsored by Dinapama Manufacturing and Supplies and they were treated to a light lunch at the ELCIN Church. It was an afternoon filled with storytelling and laughter. Furthermore, as part of the “Keeping Rural Girls in School” initiative of Maltas which the club launched in 2013, the girls were also given sanitary products. Now, that the year is coming to a close, the club will embark upon its final outreach for 2022 to Tsumkwe at the end of November.
The Club would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to His excellency Vice President of the Republic of Namibia: Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, German Embassy in Namibia for the sponsorship of laptop computers in order to roll out ICT training to more regions in Namibia and Dinapama Manufacturing and Supplies for always partnering with the club.
